THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!!

The best thing about Blogger is learning about other people's take on thing's that I love. A few weeks ago Guy from Greasy Kulture magazine spoke about "On any Sunday" and inreference to the hill climb section of the movie. I remember when I was 5 and I just started doing dirt track racing on a pee wee 50 and Dad took me into the George Street cinema's to see a movie. Mum said it would be a waste of time because I would not sit still but Dad said he would take me and he reckoned that I would not be a problem. I remember sitting there and the start kids were doing wheelies on the Bmx bikes I was like yeah cool then the movie started and Mert wearing a suit and I started saying to Dad this is boring then all of a sudden I heard that big V twin Harley flat track motor and Mert laying it out I was glued to the screen, did not ove for the entire length of the movie. This movie is started my love of bikes and racing and still to this day I love them, watch them and ride them. Thanks to Guy for reminding me of the movie I love so much, I grabbed it out of the cupboard watched it three time and told a mate that I had it now he has got it and watched four to five times. Best movie ever and the memories it brings are priceless!!! Cheers Lukefink

I'M BACK!!!!

Hello Bloggersphere,Been absolutley smashed with work had no time to do anything so writing the Blog has not been a massive priority. As stated on the last post I have moved workshop to a bigger one and my mate Georgio has moved in with me and over the last month I have been setting up the new shop. I will be posting pic of the new work shop soon and I am thinking of having a shindig very soon down there. Hot Rod has been real solid been driving it alot lately. RAT DAY is on this weekend so I am looking forward to it. Can't wait to catch up with the Boys and us all getting out for a cruise. I also have a new purchase which I shall tell you about, the EK is in real bad shape with not much to work with really. I had planned to put big horse power in it but the rust was a real BIG problem. So we have started to gut it and store the stuff we want and the rest will go to anyone who wants it or the scrap yard. So the Gasser has been shelved for the next project which all I can say right now is BIG BLOCK TIME!!!!! Yeehaa!!!!!CheersLukefink

The Apprentice

My little daughter Ruby is now at the age where she wants to come down to the workshop and help or hang out. I love it she helps with the cleaning and will also get under the car and hold the light or hand me a rag or a tool. She is a little champ and not once complained about being bored or wanting to go home. I will treasure these times. It truly was the best day when Ruby came into my and Rosalie's life. Thanks for all your help my little apprentice.

The Making of RATFNK

Ok I have been promising to write about the Hot Rod build for quite some time now and after getting through some of the bugs you get when you build one. I feel now the time is right to share the story. All my life I have wanted a Hot Rod! From the first time I saw my Dad's mate Ross Bridge's T bucket and Peter (can’t remember his last name) at the radiator shop I worked at, he had a 41 Willy's coupe I knew then I wanted a Hot Rod. I was never surrounded by Hot Rods but whenever I saw one it stopped me in my tracks and all I could do was admire whatever I saw. I had Hot Wheels cars all types mostly Rods and drag cars and I would play with them for hour upon hour upon hour. My father was into European sports cars and he restored an American army jeep from the Vietnam War but was never into Hot Rods. Also too I was racing motorcycles from a young age so my father was always travelling around Oz taking me to every race he could and I love him for that. Racing was such a big part of my life I did it from the age of 6 all the way to 32, injuries slowed me down. As I got to the end of my racing career especially when I was in the USA I was always going to Hot Rod shows. Back in Australia I didn't get to many Hot Rod shows but my passion for bikes was renewed. After I finished racing I didn't want to look at a bike was not interested in them just wanted to party and have fun. After a two year break I got interested in the old British bike thing. Being a little naive I bought a BSA Bobber from a mate. It needed a shit load of work as it was running like a dog with two legs when I got it. But after a lot of work we got it running sweet. I rode it around whilst I was building the Ruby Rocket. It was funny at the time when I bought the first BSA I never really thought about the whole build process and when you build a bike or a car it like it is an extension of you. My mate would say it was his bike and his build and I would ride it to shows and people would such oh that’s the dude that bought such and such bike. So deep down I really knew that I needed to build the Ruby Rocket so I felt like I was riding MY BIKE, MY DESIGN and MY BUILD. During the build my Daughter Ruby was born and hence the name RUBY ROCKET, after the build I sold the other BSA. After I sold the bike, my wife and I sat down and we talked about using the money to do a car for the family. My wife loves car shows which is why we click and I needed to build something so the whole family could enjoy and got out to Rod shows and cruising days. We talked about 52 Chev's and other old cars but deep down I wanted my Hot Rod. We spoke for a while and she said as long as we all fit and there is a harness for our daughter and it had a proper roof not a roadster then she had no problem with it, what a great wife! I looked around for an original 32 but couldn't find one. So I researched all the chassis companies here and in the states and I spoke to many people with different opinions but I went for the TCI Chassis from the States as I liked the cross member set up better and there options were a lot better than what was on offer here. So I placed the order with TCI and I had to wait for 6 months before the Chassis would arrive. I then started to look for a body. I looked into the Brookville steel body but after getting my jaw off the ground after I found out how much they were I decided that Glass would be the go. I looked at all the options here but after speaking to Elvis at Rod Bods and when told him I wanted to channel the body he had no problem with it and was always asking me to come up and check on the progress of the body.It was now November 2010 and the body arrived from Elvis. I was so impressed by the quality of the body and the attention to detial it had. Several people who came to the work shop to look at it were so impressed too. It was exciting as the journey of the build was starting and the body was ready to go all I needed was the chassis. I will write the next part of the build soon. My little helper in the last photo, and yes she helped with the build. CheersLukefink

Time!

As this is my first post in over a month I would like to apologize. My time has been at a premium this month, running my A/C business, raising my beautiful Daughter, my father having a major operation, and the weather just being absolutely rubbish I have had hardly anytime to do the fun stuff. Matt from Machine Shed dropped by for a catch up good to see you mate. Took the Rod out a couple of Saturday nights ago to the Romans car club night down in the Shire. It was a good night with plenty of cars. It was just great taking the car for a run. The new torque converter is making a massive difference and the blower well it's just awesome. Thanks to Me Greg for your help and learned knowledge. Over the next week I will start to write a post on the car build and all the goings on.
See you on the Road.
Cheers Lukefink

Sorry for the lack of posting!

Hello to whoever reads this, sorry for my lack of posting I have been flat out with my nine to five job and I am in the middle of the rebirthing of RATFNK. I had put on orignally a Barry Grant quad Demon 98 2 barrel set up. The orignal linkages and stuff were all wrong and now we have found out that the metering plates arent right and that the whole set up was not going to work. I have spent hours upon hours trying to set this setup right. Completely fucked a starter motor and just plain wasted my time. When it did run ok it was fine for about a week then I would have to tinker again. So I bit the bullet and decided to change the set up. Enter the Weiand 177 Super charger with the Holley 750 double pumper. Cant wait were going to start her tomorrow night will post how it all goes, Mr Greg & Johnny have been helping so it shouldn't be a drama. Looking forward to hitting the pavement again, this car is hoot to drive. Also right in time for my birthday as well, my beautiful ladies certianly looked after me. Love to you all Lukefink.

Finks!!!!

My blog is about all things silly, weird, cars, rods and bikes. It is also about Finks! I have been collecting Ed Roth's models and models kits for quite a few years and I have everyone except the elusive Boss Fink and Tweedy Pie. I love the box art on the kits which is what most of my tattoo's are. When Nathan who tattooed me saw all the box art he started to collect the model kits. Some are very rare and the others have been re made in the 90's. I prefer to collect the older ones for the nostalgic deal and the fact the where made in 1964 but the 90's ones are good to collect and when I have some spare time I like to build them. I will start posting some of my Finks and other Finks from around the globe. The story of how Ed Roth came up with Rat Fink and the other Fink monsters is quite intersting and I will save it for another post.
This is Mr Gasser, he is an original monster from 1964 and this kit he is driving a 57 Chevy. The Danbury mint did a limted run of this model as a collectors item along with Rat Fink "King of the Hemi's". I will be posting more fink monsters in the near future. I am always happy to answer questions please feel free to drop me a line. Cheers Lukefink

The Weekend!

Okay it has been frustrating! Being working on the Rod and the carbies have finally pissed me off! Was trying to tune it and sort them out. Been trying to sort them out since we first started it. Been speaking to a Barry Grant guy and couple of Holley dudes and I have come to the relisation that these carbs and manifold setup just aren't going to work. I fried the starter motor also which is F#%ked. So its time for the Supercharger and four barrel to enter the arena.

Ruby Rocket !!!!!!!

I started this build in early 2009. I went to the Goulburn swap meet to pick the donner bike only to get jerked around by the dude who sold it to me on ebay. The guy didnt even bring the right bike and tried to sell me a A50 Bezza which is not what I wanted. I started to aruge with the prick but got now where. I had the shits and walked around till I met this old dude named Victor. He heard me arguing and said he had a frame and engine for sale if I wanted it, SWEET! Got the frame and motor for a $500.00 bucks, BARGAIN! The engine cases were split and the whole motor was in peices so I was given about 15 different boxes and ice cream containers which housed the engine bits. Victor asked if I had ever put together a bottom end before I said "No first time." So he offered his help and after giving it a clean and checking all the bushes and bearings we put the bottom end back together. Once the bottom end was together I welded the hard tail frame to the Bezza A65 front frame and got the bike to a rolling chassis. I used a Triumph oil in frame front end that I cut down three inches. Sat the motor in and then I built the top end of the motor. Once the motor was done I got some lightining blts laser cut, the Motor is a A65 Lightining motor.
I bought some mandrill bends and made the pipes. The right side pipe was a bitch and I had to cut the pipe about thousand times and re weld it again and again.
After the bike was mocked up I had Dave "Neo Dutch" O Hanlon paint the tank and fender, he nailed it. The Ruby rocket was named after my daughter he was born during the build. Once the bike was back together I came time to fire it up. After kicking it for three hours the old girl came to life. Still to this day it is still reliable as hell and its a fun little scoot to ride. I first had grey pipes on it but then change it to the white. I could crap on it for hours the build took me just on 12 months. It was one of the best learing experinces and I am about to get stuck into a Trumpy chop. Will post pics of the build.
Cheers Lukefink
